Live Action Pokémon Series Being Developed By Netflix
According to Variety, Netflix is in the early stages of developing a live action Pokemon TV series, with Lucifer co-showrunner and executive producer Joe Henderson expected to bring the project to the screen as soon as possible. Detective Pikachu won't be the last time you see real people interact with the fictional (in my heart) Pokemon.
According to Netflix, the new Pokemon series will be a live action project like the 2019 detective Pikachu film. A new live-action Pokemon show, Pokemon, is set to be live action from 2019, similar to the Ryan Reynolds and Justice Smith film featuring Detective Pikachu.
Lucifer showrunner Joe Henderson has been selected to produce a new series of Pokemon which airs on Netflix, Variety reports. It remains to be seen whether the Netflix series will be set in the same universe as Detective Pikachu. While shows such as Castlevania, Resident Evil and The Witcher are based on the games, Variety reports that Netflix is working on a live action Pokemon series.
Although there are not many details about the early development of the live action Pokemon series on its platform, it is known that several sources have come forward to confirm the news, meaning we can assume that the series will be shown on Netflix sometime in the future. Variety reports that the live-action Pokemon project, which is only a TV series at this time, is still in the Pokemon development process and that Lucifer executive producer and showrunner Joe Henderson is in charge of the project. The new Pokemon series is the second coming project that Henderson, best known for his work as co-showrunner on Lucifer, is developing for Netflix after the series adaptation of his comic book Shadecraft was announced in March.
Netflix has made a push to turn some of the biggest video game franchises into commercialized anime series. His four-part Castlevania animated series received positive reviews from critics and was predicted by the company as a declared audience success. The company continues its game series and announces projects based on Splinter Cell and Far Cry.
There is a plethora of video game content on Netflix, including Pokemon. A new season of the animated series Pokemon Masters Journey is set to premiere on Netflix in September. Pokemon is a global mega-billionaire franchise so it is no stranger to movies and shows on Netflix, but spends most of its time in the versions of the game (Pokemon Indigo League and Pokemon Journey) that are on Netflix.
So it's only logical that the streaming giant wants to capitalise on the popularity of the Pokemon brand with a show produced by its own studio (s). The big news of the day comes with a new series that is in early development for Netflix.
Nintendo's Pokemon franchise is the largest-performing media franchise in the world, with a spinoff of anime series and a host of animated films. Pokemon was founded in 1995 and has since spawned an entire universe of video games, live action films, anime series, merchandise and more. The original Pokemon anime is based on a hugely successful video game franchise from Nintendo.
