Amazon’s New World MMO is bricking 3090’s
My suggestion would be to limit the frame rate of New World to 60fps and run at an unlimited frame rate to lower the temperature of the 3 fans from 65AdegC / GPU to about 73AdegG / GPU, in line with other intense games.
On July 21st, Amazon issued the following statement to PC gamer, claiming the game is safe to play with a frame rate cap patch and that the game menu screen continues to reassure players.
This message about current concerns about graphics card hardware is hosted on an external platform that will display only when you accept targeting cookies. In a new statement on New World and recent concerns about graphics cards, Amazon Games says it has received some reports that players using high-performance graphics cards experience hardware failure during the game. To further reassure players, we are implementing a patch today that limits frames per second on our menu screen.
Several players of the new game New World published by Amazon in the official forums report problems with Nvidia RTX 3090 cards of different manufacturers, which were installed to play the beta of the game. It seems that the problem at the moment is specific to EVGA cards, as New World pushes other GPUs and reports higher power consumption, menu screens and higher temperatures as a result. This means that there is no argument that it is a hardware problem rather than a gaming problem.
When the open beta of Amazon-developed MMO New World opened on July 20, players began reporting critical GPU problems on the subreddit and the forums of New World. One player reported that during the Alpha test the game "walled" American hardware manufacturers EVGA RTX 3090 cards, while another had an Nvidia GTX 3090 GPU manufactured by EVGA for beta testing. We reached out to Amazon and the game studio EVGA to get an answer to the problem.
Numerous players have reported that their graphics cards overheated and died while playing the closed Beta of Amazon MMO New World, of which many were EVGA Nvidia RTX 3090 cards. A number of users on Reddit, especially owners of GeForce RTX 30 90, reported that the introduction of the closed beta of New Worlds MMO did not crash their graphics card, but a component worth $1,499. S GTX 3090 card seems to be the most frequently mentioned bug, with players of other series and card models also suffering from overheating.
If you have a 3090 card of any kind, you might want to wait until Amazon repairs the case. It is possible that who knows where the problem lies, and even more players will report card failures. Another problem is that EVGA cards are still in beta, with one player in the New World forums saying he had an EVGA card on him while the game was in alpha, and one in beta
