A Real Life Version of 'Squid Game' Is Happening in South Korea
A real-life version of the popular Netflix TV series "Squid Game" will be shown on 24 October in a South Korean hotel, according to a report in the Korean Times. According to the story picked up by the Times from Hypebeast, the St. Johns Hotel in the rural east coast town of Gangneung is holding a version of the "squid game" they are staging live. Government officials in Gangneung, however, have ordered the hotel not to continue playing squid in real life because it would violate existing social dissociation rules.
The Korea Times reports that hotels in South Korea's Gangwon province are staging their own live-action version of The Show, which they are marketing as a realistic version of Netflix's Squid Game. The St. Johns Hotel in Gangwon Province teamed up with a ticket seller to produce an outdoor game featuring an octopus with a real prize of 5 million won ($4,215), the newspaper reported Thursday. The event was due to take place on October 24th.
In this live-action adaptation of the popular Netflix series, the winner will win 5 million ($4,178) and is not limited to hotel guests who can participate. In addition, participants receive business cards with mysterious phone numbers that reflect the events of the game. The staff who run the event wear imposing pink jumpsuits that flaunt the guards worn on the show.
